Matthew Pittinsky is co-founder and Chairman of Blackboard Inc. He is a recognized leader in the field of online education and, particularly, on the Internet's impact at institutions of higher education. He is credited with an early vision of the need for an open standard platform powering online learning environments and he is as an early member in the EDUCAUSE IMS standards project.
Dr. Marshall (Mike) Smith is the former President-appointed Undersecretary and Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education in Washington, DC. In these capacities he was the chief operating officer of the Department and the Chief Policy Advisor to the Secretary. He has also held teaching positions at Harvard, Wisconsin, and Stanford, and served as Dean of the School of Education at Stanford for six years. With this broad background, Mike is able to integrate research on policy questions from several disciplines and to focus on educational process, whether at the level of the individual student in the classroom or the level of state and national educational reform.
Dr. Carol A. Twigg serves as executive director of the Center for Academic Transformation. She is the former vice president of Educom, where she founded the National Learning Infrastructure Initiative. The Initiative is a coalition of 85 institutions, organizations, and companies that are building new forms of student-centered, network-based teaching and learning. Prior to her service with Educom, Carol was Associate Vice Chancellor for Learning Technologies for the State University of New York.
Mary Anne Waikart Director, St. Albans School of Public Service (SPS). SPS is the premier residential summer program for bright high school students with high interest in public service and civic engagement. She was former Vice-President of the Morino Institute, Associate Dean and Director of the MBA Programme at London Business School and Director of the MBA program at The Maryland Business School, University of Maryland.
